Job Overview
A law firm seeks a Senior Real Estate Litigation Associate in Richmond, Virginia. This role involves representing clients in various real estate disputes and regulatory matters, including land use and zoning litigation. The position requires occasional travel to Fredericksburg or Tysons offices.

Duties

• Represent clients in real estate, land use, zoning, and property rights disputes in state and federal courts.
• Handle tax assessment appeals, eminent domain, and condemnation proceedings.
• Advise clients on land use and entitlement matters, including rezonings and zoning ordinance interpretations.
• Counsel clients on litigation risks and regulatory requirements.
• Draft and argue pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
• Conduct legal research and prepare analyses on land use regulations and real estate disputes.
• Draft, review, and negotiate applications, agreements, and legal memoranda.
• Collaborate with professionals involved in development and land use matters.
• Represent clients before local governing bodies and administrative agencies.
• Manage matters from inception through resolution, including trials and appeals.

Requirements

• Active membership in the Virginia State Bar or eligibility for admission.
• 6-9 years of experience in real estate litigation or related practice areas.
• Experience with zoning appeals, land use disputes, and commercial real estate litigation.
• Strong drafting skills for complex legal documents.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage matters independently while collaborating effectively.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Virginia State Bar membership or eligibility.

Skills

• Experience with large-scale commercial or industrial developments.
• Trial, evidentiary hearing, or appellate experience.
• Existing relationships within Virginia's real estate or local government communities.
