A law firm in New York, NY seeks a motivated Associate Attorney with 2-3 years of civil and commercial litigation experience to join their hybrid office. The ideal candidate will possess strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with practical experience handling complex business disputes, contract issues, and shareholder controversies involving domestic and international clients. This role offers the opportunity to manage litigation assignments independently while collaborating effectively with senior attorneys in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is preferred but not required, and experience with cross-border matters is a plus.

Duties

• Conduct comprehensive legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other resources to support litigation strategies and arguments.



• Draft, review, and revise pleadings, motions, memoranda of law, discovery requests, responses, and settlement agreements.



• Handle all stages of civil and commercial litigation, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation.



• Analyze factual records, statutes, case law, and procedural rules to develop effective litigation strategies for complex disputes.



• Prepare for and participate in depositions, court hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and other litigation proceedings.



• Manage litigation case files, monitor court deadlines, and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state procedural rules.



• Collaborate with senior attorneys on case strategy, legal analysis, and maintain regular communication with clients regarding case developments.

Requirements

• Active admission to the New York State Bar and good standing.



• 2-3 years of relevant litigation experience, primarily in civil and commercial litigation.



• Demonstrated experience drafting pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, and discovery-related documents.



• Strong understanding of federal and New York State civil procedure, court rules, and litigation practices.



• Experience handling commercial disputes, breach of contract claims, shareholder disputes, and other business-related litigation matters.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active New York State Bar admission.

Skills

• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.



• Proficiency in Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Microsoft Office.



• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple litigation matters and deadlines simultaneously.



• Ability to work independently, exercise sound professional judgment, and collaborate effectively with colleagues.



• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and client-focused approach.



• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is preferred but not required.



• Experience representing international clients or handling cross-border commercial disputes is a plus.
