Associate General Counsel
The candidate will have responsibility for several significant areas in the realm of higher education. Will report to the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel and will work closely with Deans and other senior administrators of the University. Working closely with the Associate General Counsel responsible for student affairs, the new Associate General Counsel will focus primarily on Title IX, providing legal advice to the University Sexual Assault Investigation Board, the Title IX Coordinator, Judicial Administrator, and other senior administrators. Other student affairs matters may include campus life and student activities. Also be called upon to provide other general contract and corporate advice and representation services to the senior leadership of the University. A major compoenent of this activity will include providing legal advice to University faculty, administrators and libraries on copyright/fair use issues and also providing assistance in the registration and enforcement of trademarks. Work closely with the Copyright and Digital Access Librarian and other University librarians as needed. It is specifically contemplated that this attorney will, over time, have the opportunity to develop other areas of higher education expertise as need and experience warrant. Active membership in the Missouri Bar, or immediate eligibility for same, is required. Must have 6 years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law. The ideal background will include significant experience with litigation and/or internal investigations. Some experience with intellectual property is also desirable. Candidates must possess a high degree of analytic rigor, superb writing ability, extremely strong and well-demonstrated client skills, and the ability to provide accurate, timely, thorough and well-reasoned legal advice to senior administrators.
