The candidate will be responsible for defending company’s insureds in a variety of litigation including insurance defense, casualty defense, premises, auto, commercial litigation, products liability, general negligence and labor and employment matters. This work would include litigation in state and Federal Courts and before governing agencies and responding to demand letters and charges of discrimination. Work on a wide variety of general casualty and labor and employment claims and some claims of professional liability. Specific duties will include: trial work, conducting and defending depositions and engaging in other pre-trial discovery, drafting pleadings, engaging in motion practice, researching, briefing and arguing appellate matters, appearing in administrative agency matters, representing client at mediation, negotiating settlements, generating reports and evaluations on assigned cases. Must have Admission to Texas State bar and the U.S. District Courts of Texas. Must have 5+ years of casualty litigation experience and some level of work on labor and employment matters. Additional insurance defense experience including in negligence, products and premises liability, property damage and automobile accidents is preferred. Should have experience representing clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Texas Workforce Commission, and/or other state and federal agencies in labor and employment matters. Must have experience litigating a broad range of employment law matters in state and federal court and able to work independently on same. Must have strong knowledge of current procedural and substantive law, as well as Federal, state and administrative agency rules. Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written advocacy skills and negotiation tactics. Must have an ability to apply analytical skills in addressing complex legal issues. Must have an ability to apply analytical skills in addressing complex legal issues. Must be able and willing to proactively communicate with clients, Claims staff and other members of House Counsel.
