Honors Internship Program, Summer 2021
The Law Department's varied divisions offer summer interns hands-on practical experience. Interns regularly draft motion papers and briefs that are filed in court. Many take or defend depositions. The intern will be placed in the Tax and Bankruptcy division. Interns will draft parts of memoranda of law or even an entire brief depending on the issues involved in a particular case. Interns also research issues dealing with bankruptcy, real property tax, real property valuation, condemnation and excise taxes. Interns may also draft points for an appellate brief. Interns also are encouraged to accompany the Division's attorneys to court and administrative conferences and hearings. Interns may also have the opportunity to assist Division attorneys in trial preparation. Each summer intern is assigned a mentor. Each intern should receive several major assignments during the summer with different attorney supervisors. The number and nature of assignments vary by division. Should be enrolled in an accredited US or Canadian law school. The interns should work eight of the nine weeks of program, which normally starts the first Monday in June and ends the first Friday in August. Second year summer interns will be preferred.
Note: Weekly stipends of $750 are offered to all second-year summer interns and most first-year summer interns. Out-of-town law student interns may be eligible for free summer housing.
