Assistant General Counsel
The candidate will report to the General Counsel and Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs for the University. Primary duties will be on the Lawrence campus, will involve travel to the Medical Center campus from time-to-time. Client engagement, providing advice on legal matters arising from the operations of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and its controlled affiliates, advising administrators, faculty, staff on federal and state laws and regulations as well as Regents and University policies and procedures applicable to the operations of the University. Legal research, drafting and reviewing legal documents and contracts; assisting with the University’s public records operations. Monitoring University compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and assisting in formulating University policies and procedures involving legal issues; Working with outside counsel, traveling to other campus locations as required from time-to-time, and participating in conferences and professional development opportunities. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited American law school and membership in Kansas bar or admission to Kansas bar within 12 months of hire. 3 years active practice experience after bar admission. Excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials and interview process. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in representing institutions of higher education or other public entities. Experience with contracts, employment discrimination, intellectual property law, tax law, administrative law, construction or civil rights law and trial practice considered a plus.
