Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate to join its Consumer Financial Services Regulatory Compliance Practice Group in Cleveland, OH. The team advises depository institutions, mortgage lenders, auto finance companies, specialty lenders, Fintechs, payment processors, and other consumer finance market participants on a broad range of state and federal regulatory compliance matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients navigating complex regulatory frameworks, launching innovative financial products, and managing regulatory risk in rapidly evolving industries.

Duties

• Advise a broad range of financial services providers on state and federal regulatory compliance requirements.



• Counsel clients regarding origination, underwriting, licensing, documentation, servicing, privacy, collection, and asset recovery.



• Assist clients in preparing for and responding to state and federal examinations, investigations, regulatory inquiries, and enforcement actions.



• Analyze and advise on compliance with state and federal consumer financial laws, including TILA, FDCPA, FCRA, RESPA, SCRA, MLA, and analogous state consumer protection laws.



• Support clients in the development and review of financial products, programs, disclosures, policies, and procedures.



• Advise on corporate structuring, business expansion initiatives, and regulatory considerations associated with new products and technologies.



• Conduct multi-state legal research and prepare memoranda, client alerts, and other substantive work product.

Requirements

• 2-5 years of experience in financial services compliance or a related practice area.



• Familiarity with state and federal consumer financial services laws and related regulatory frameworks governing origination, servicing, collection, asset recovery, and licensing.



• Experience advising financial institutions, Fintech companies, specialty lenders, or other regulated financial services providers is preferred.



• Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.



• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.



• Admission to practice in the jurisdiction where the candidate will reside and work, or eligibility to become admitted promptly upon hire.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction or eligibility for prompt admission.

• Ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and manage regulatory risk.



• Strong written and verbal communication skills for client advisory and internal documentation.
