Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with expertise in high-tech patent prosecution to join their San Francisco, CA office. The ideal candidate will have a background in computer science or electrical engineering and experience in technologies such as hardware, software, and artificial intelligence.

Duties

• Review invention disclosure documents and conduct invention disclosure meetings.
• Conduct prior searches, review references, and analyze patentability.
• Draft patent applications.
• Review USPTO office actions, formulate response strategies, conduct examiner interviews, and draft and file responses.
• Manage U.S. and foreign dockets.
• Analyze patents in connection with due diligence and/or freedom to operate analyses.

Requirements

• USPTO admission is preferred.
• At least one year of patent prosecution experience, preferably involving artificial intelligence and/or machine learning.
• Experience in software, hardware and devices, database technology, wireless technologies, and image and/or signal processing.
• Technical background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Prior work experience in a law firm preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of professionalism in engaging with demanding clients.
• Ability to balance and prioritize multiple competing priorities and responsibilities.
• Highly organized with extreme attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in team settings.

Education

• Technical background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.

Certifications

• USPTO admission preferred.
