Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Principal Regulatory Attorney with at least seven years of experience in FDA compliance to join its Consumer Brands practice in Portland. This role involves leading regulatory strategies for clients in food, beverage, supplements, and cosmetics, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on M&A and financing transactions.

Duties

• Advise clients on FDA regulatory compliance, including labeling, packaging, advertising claims, and ingredient safety for consumer products.



• Lead regulatory due diligence and risk management for sophisticated financing, investment, and M&A transactions.



• Counsel on inspections, enforcement matters, recalls, and emerging federal and state regulatory developments.



• Negotiate and advise on commercial agreements, including manufacturing, supply, distribution, and logistics contracts.



• Collaborate with investors, lenders, and operating companies to identify and mitigate regulatory risks throughout the business lifecycle.

Requirements

• At least seven years of experience advising clients on FDA regulatory compliance, specifically within food, beverage, dietary supplements, or cosmetics.



• Experience advising clients on USDA regulatory compliance matters.



• A portable book of business and a demonstrated interest in developing and growing client relationships.



• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with the ability to become admitted in the office jurisdiction as required.



• Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills, paired with sound business judgment and a practical, client-focused approach.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.

Skills

• Experience with CPSC, FTC, and related federal or state regulatory matters is desired.



• Experience negotiating or advising on commercial agreements in the consumer brands or consumer products industries is desired.



• Experience advising on regulatory issues arising in M&A, financing, and investment transactions is desired.



• Experience with intellectual property protection, licensing, and brand-related matters is preferred.



• Ability to work collaboratively across practices and offices as well as independently.



• Ability to manage significant responsibilities and multiple matters efficiently.
