Senior Vice President and General Counsel
The candidate will provide legal advice in the areas of corporate health care, health care compliance, physician practice activities, research, managed care contracting, employee benefits, non-profit and tax exemption issues, employment, and higher education matters, including financial aid. Will coordinates and manages EEOC, ADEA, Title VII, Title IX, FERPA and ADA matters, which may include litigating and or managing outside legal counsel. Provide legal advice and guidance in the development and implementation of policy regarding compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and implementation of compliance programs. Serve as a point of contact to the officers and staff of the organization regarding legal matters. Review and comments on legal obligations of firm and advises the appropriate function head of legal risk associated with contracts and obligations prior to becoming a party or otherwise becoming legally bound. Inform management of legislative developments and other important legal matters that could affect and its operations. Perform extensive research and draft legal documents and memoranda and provide opinions on a broad range of legal matters. Carry out assignments independently and makes final legal determination in matters of substantial impact. Deal regularly with officers, senior associate deans and department chairs of the organization, faculty, and top-level management officials and senior attorneys in other organizations. Academic medical center experience is preferred. JD degree from an accredited law school is needed. Should have 10+ years of experience, in house counsel experience required. Wisconsin Bar admission within one year for an attorney admitted to practice in any other state or territory or the District of Columbia. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, procedures, state and federal regulations, executive orders, and political processes is needed. Knowledge of business principles to effectively plan, allocation of resources, and coordinate strategic and tactical objectives is needed. Knowledge of, and ability to proficiently use, Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment is needed.
