Associate Staff Attorney
The candidate will interview student clients, identify and research legal issues, provide legal advice and information, and provide representation of students on legal matters when appropriate. Legal matters may include but not limited to criminal, family law, landlord tenant, consumer/debtor creditor, personal injury, insurance disputes, traffic, and employment law. Assist in legal educational presentations and programming to students, staff/faculty, and community partners. Engage in outreach activities to students, staff/faculty, and community partners. Assist, support and communicate with Director, other Staff attorneys and support staff in developing referral resources and other programs to assist students in managing and resolving disputes and other legal issues. Participate in a case review with other attorneys to determine level of representation. Promote and model teamwork and establishment of a collaborative, service-oriented multicultural environment in the Student Legal Services department. Work cooperatively with other PSU departments towards the advancement of overall Student Affairs and University-wide goals. Assist and provide innovation towards the creation of a learning environment and learning outcomes for student clients, interns, law clerks and student staff. Identify and support alternative dispute resolution processes for resolution of legal issues. Should have Law degree from accredited law school, and at least 5 years’ experience practicing law. Must be current Oregon State Bar membership in good standing and continued maintenance. Must have 1+ year post-Bar experience working in the area of criminal law. Should have experience providing legal advice and representation to a diverse constituency. Should have excellent communication, research, and conflict resolution skills. Should have experience representing university students.
