Research Privacy and Security Officer
Duties: To develop, oversee and coordinate research-related information privacy and security program across all Dartmouth clinical and translational research initiatives. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and guidelines for research information privacy and security, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, as well as institutional standards. Set the direction for information privacy and security compliance in support of Dartmouth’s research growth, with guidance from Executive Director, Dartmouth SYNERGY Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the Director, SYNERGY Biomedical Informatics Core. Collaborate with existing privacy and security offices at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center to ensure coordination of new activities and concurrence of guidelines for researchers working across the Dartmouth system; ensure a robust and secure clinical data exchange for research programs across the system. Develop a proactive auditing and monitoring program to ensure that Dartmouth policies and procedures are effective and responsive in the evolving arena of translational research. Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations, privacy and security laws and privacy and security community best practices and implementation procedures. Cultivate knowledge on current topics and new trends in information security technology. Establish a responsive and accessible consultation service for the research community and institutional leadership, fostering privacy and security “best practices” in data use and disclosure. Provide consultation to and risk assessments for institutional committees, e.g. Institutional Review Board, to promote highest level of data security related to clinical studies, identifying areas of risk and proposing solution for mitigating risk. Educate the research community in appropriate approach to information exchange and security challenges in the responsible conduct of research, both internally and with external sponsors.
