Job Description
Loudoun County's Department of General Services (DGS) is seeking a highly motivated, customer service-driven candidate to fill this senior-level position, as the Assistant Department Director for Space Planning, Policy and Renovation. The successful candidate will provide critical department leadership supporting the Director and overseeing the Department's responsibilities for Space Planning, Overarching Policy, and Renovation efforts. This position will oversee operational areas of the Space Planning & Design and the Facility Renovation & Construction Programs. The Department's three Assistant Directors have authority to act in the Director's absence on all departmental matters including personnel, budget, procurement, and interaction with all facets of County government including County Administration, Board of Supervisors, and State and Federal agencies.
The successful candidate will be able to perform the following:
-Oversee the activities of the Space Planning & Design and Facility Renovation & Construction divisions
-Act as a subject matter expert in the overarching internal and external space strategy policy and ensure its effective implementation
-Act a subject matter expert in developing and implementing facility space renovation design and construction projects and programs
-Act as a subject matter expert in matters of strategic space planning policy and communications, both internally within the Department, between the Department and other County agencies, and externally with stakeholders, and ensure the continuity of communications
-Coordinate the annual budget process for all Space Planning Design and Renovation projects, collaborate with the Director and the other Assistant Directors in the development of the Department's annual budget
-Represent the Department with the Board, individual Board members, the County Administrator and External partners on all matters within the DGS Space Portfolio, and serve as the direct point-of-contact for these stakeholders for the Countywide Strategic Space Plan
-Prepare and present Board Items
-Effectively lead and participate as County liaison to various committees, workgroups, and organizations handling complex policy issues
-Provide leadership and direction to the Department to ensure the Department's goals are consistent with the priorities and objectives of the County Administration and Board of Supervisors
-Manage staff performance, provide feedback and mentor mid-level managers

Job Requirements
-Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Architecture, Design, Construction, Civil Engineering or related field
-Five (5) years of directly related experience with increasing responsibility in the strategic planning, architecture, construction, renovation, and/or design fields
-Two (2) years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in local government or working with local governments
-Licensed Architect and/or Licensed Civil Engineer certifications are preferred
-Direct experience managing a large space portfolio is preferred
-Experience managing a space planning and design team is preferred
Hiring Range: $92,257.58- $133,773.49
Salary Commensurate with Experience
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required. Subject to on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The incumbent alternates with the Department Director and other Assistant Directors in providing senior General Services presence in the County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergencies arising from natural or man-made disasters.
