Job Description Summary
Are you an inquisitive, empathetic, and innovative leader who wants to know the why behind every what in user interfaces?
Are you confident facilitating group sessions and presenting to stakeholders? Enjoy analyzing diverse inputs and finding patterns in complexity?
Do you enjoy distilling the complexity of qualitative studies, quantitative research, and analytics into consumable patterns, findings, and design recommendations?
Are you a strategic thinker who advocates for users with leadership?
If you want to track, learn about, and iterate upon enterprise, end-to-end user experiences that just work and you love to follow through on complex plans, mentor other professionals, and teach design-thinking methods to colleagues, keep reading. This just might be the role you've been looking for.
Leading in-person and remote primary research studies, in this role you collect qualitative and quantitative, formative and evaluative, large and small feedback for analysis and action. Your research contributes to uncovering new opportunities, rapid new concept prototyping, usability testing, and experimenting with real-world offerings. When faced with ambiguity, you clarify hypotheses and inform direction through experimentation; you push beyond observations to understand why. You uncover insight with close observation, digging into data, and considering more than what people say or do, but what they may be thinking or feeling.
You are part of a team of experienced designers and researchers working with product managers, business architects, and business and technology leaders. Fueled by your team's research insights, you tell powerful stories that help build empathy and inspire the next iteration of highly engaging experiences that set a new bar in customer-focused service expectations.
This position may be based 100% remotely or in one of our offices.
Key responsibilities
Plan and conduct quantitative user research to baseline and benchmark and support qualitative data.
Advocate user-centered approaches; help partners understand when and why empathy matters.
Continually grow a range of familiar research methods, strategically selecting methods (e.g., ethnographic interviews, prototyping, contextual inquiry, intercepts, surveys, A/B tests, metrics) to meet project needs.
Identify, plan and lead design discovery and user research activities that are critical to product success.
Navigate ambiguity and bring clarity to user needs through rapid experimentation.
Plan and conduct primary user research including qualitative facilitation, survey and questionnaire design, user recruitment and coordination, etc.
Conduct secondary and competitive research and analysis when appropriate.
Analyze and report research findings to stakeholders and translate these findings into design solutions.
Oversee creation and delivery of artifacts that include personas, journey maps, user workflows, information architecture, wireframes, and interactive prototypes within project timelines and budgets.
Understand the importance of people, products, processes and partners in an enterprise setting.
Drive quality and excellence in our experience design practice helping recruit new members to build a mature, high-performing design group.
Help create a dynamic team environment by fostering empathy, collaboration, experimentation, agility, and vigorous inquiry while maintaining high expectations and attention to detail.
Help create and evolve design principles and best practices that account for user needs and context, while reinforcing brand values.

Mastery of common information architecture and interaction design methods and artifacts such as site maps, taxonomies, flow diagrams, mental models, content inventories, wireframes, etc.
Ability to use popular software tools for UI design and prototyping, such as Sketch, InVision, Figma, Axure, etc.
Proven ability to facilitate workshops and meetings with diverse groups of stakeholders and users, sometimes with minimal planning; provide a productive, enjoyable, collaborative experience.
Experience championing and growing a user-centric culture including usability and accessibility standards and practices.
Familiarity with lean and Agile approaches to creating software, and a desire to learn and improve.
Experience with creating or working on pattern libraries, style guides or design systems.
