Clinical Law Fellow
Responsibilities: Depending on the Clinic’s caseload and the law fellow’s skills and experience, responsibilities may include: Supporting the Clinic course as a Teaching Assistant in clinical seminars and supervising student work in the course. Maintaining the course website (Sakai). Conducting legal research using a wide range of research tools. Developing legal strategies to accomplish clients’ goals. Drafting legal documents, including motions and pleadings for state and federal courts. Policy analysis and drafting policy recommendations. Drafting comment letters and petitions directed to state and federal agencies. Advising clients on legal and policy matters. Statutory and regulatory analysis. Drafting proposed legislation and regulations. Editing and proofreading, including for compliance with the Bluebook or other style manual. Public information requests and document review from agencies. Supporting supervising attorneys in student supervision and case management. Presenting before client and community groups. Working with Clinic staff to recruit students for course work and for employment opportunities such as summer fellowships. Identifying potential clients and developing client relationships. Organizing meetings with clients, colleagues, and community groups. Attending state and/or federal agency meetings. Attending and presenting at environmental law conferences. Following established office protocol and procedures. Assisting other team members including Paralegal. Assisting in drafting scholarly writing for publication (if time permits).
