This is responsible work involving the operations of the Residential, Commercial, Recycling, and Roll-Off programs in the Sanitation Division of the Public Works Department. Responsibilities include scheduling and supervision of employees in subordinate positions. Manages all activities associated with the collection and disposal of all solid waste including recyclable materials and inspections to assure conformance with all applicable City Codes and Departmental Policies. Duties are performed with considerable independence under general supervision. Performance evaluation is based upon work while in progress and upon completion, by review of records and reports and by periodic conferences with the Public Works Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations and procedures of the Public Works Department and the City.
Considerable knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of the equipment and facilities within the division.
Knowledge of the hazards and precautions needed for safety in the operation of the division.
Considerable skill in the operation of equipment used within the division.
Ability to understand and transmit oral and written instructions; read working diagrams, sketches, and blueprints; keep records and prepare reports; coordinate and supervise the work of employees within the Division; learn and participate in enforcement of related sections of the City Code of Ordinances; and establish and maintain effective relationships with employees and the public.
Training, Certification, and Experience
Completion of high school (graduation or GED) and sufficient college level education (preferably minimum of an Associate’s Degree) to provide the necessary administrative skills to meet the job requirements.
Considerable experience in solid waste operation and maintenance; preferably with two (2) years’ experience with lead man or supervisory duties, or, an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
Valid Florida driver's license.
Possession of a valid Florida Commercial “B” License with air brakes.
