Senior Technology Transfer Associate
The candidate reporting to the Intellectual Property Team Lead, independently manages a docket of technologies and has advanced skills in strategic IP assessment and patenting strategies. Through interactions with faculty members, staff, students, and outside counsel, the Senior IP Manager develops IP strategy, manages patent prosecution and develops intellectual property assets for commercialization. Evaluates new invention disclosure summaries including conducting inventor interviews, preliminary prior art analysis, and coordinating with licensing associates for commercialization activity. Makes patenting decision within a set legal budget. Focuses on inventor outreach and contact for patent related matters. Interfaces with internal and external counsel to coordinate patent decisions within a fixed budget. Develops IP protection strategy for inventions retained by the university in consultation with licensing staff, business analysts, inventors and IP counsel. Implements the strategy. Tracks and fulfills filing obligations for licensed technologies in portfolio. Establishes and maintains contacts with industry IP managers, patent counsel and representatives at other academic institutions. Works under the direct supervision of the Intellectual Property Team lead in conducting all activities. Makes recommendations but not the final decision concerning investments and patent strategies. Does not direct the activities of staff or a function.
