Job Overview

Duties

• Conduct discovery, draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.



• Litigate workers' compensation or general liability cases before administrative law judges.



• Represent clients at hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations.



• Monitor loss run reports to identify trends and alert management to potential concerns.



• Assist with accident investigations, compile required reports, and coordinate claims reviews.



• Negotiate settlements on behalf of insurance companies and employers.

Requirements

• Experience in workers' compensation or general liability defense work.



• Working knowledge of legal principles, practices, and terminology.



• In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.



• Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

Certifications

• Proof of admission to the Illinois Bar.



• Passing the bar in another Midwest state is a plus.

Skills

• Ability to manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.



• Strong negotiation and settlement skills.



• Effective communication for client representation and internal reporting.
