Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Commercial Litigation Associate to join its Chicago, IL office. The ideal candidate will bring 4-5 years of litigation experience, with a focus on complex business disputes. This role involves managing significant aspects of litigation, from strategy development to trial preparation, within a collaborative and sophisticated practice environment.

Duties

• Develop and execute case strategies for complex business litigation matters in Illinois state and federal courts.



• Manage all phases of written and document discovery, including researching and drafting sophisticated pleadings and dispositive motions.



• Conduct and defend depositions, prepare witnesses for testimony, and appear for status conferences and hearings.



• Argue motions, participate in settlement conferences, and engage in significant trial preparation.



• Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and case team members to provide strategic guidance.



• Lead and manage cases, oversee junior attorneys, and take ownership of key litigation responsibilities.

Requirements

• Substantial experience handling complex business litigation matters and navigating Illinois court procedures.



• Ability to independently manage significant aspects of litigation matters and provide strategic guidance.



• Experience coordinating with clients, opposing counsel, and experts throughout the litigation process.



• Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset with strong interpersonal skills and an exceptional work ethic.



• Comfortable interacting directly and regularly with partners and clients.

Education

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school.



• Top academic credentials required.

Certifications

• Active member of the Illinois Bar in good standing.

Skills

• Persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy skills.



• Experience with cross-border matters is desired.



• Participation in settlement conferences and negotiations is preferred.



• Significant trial preparation experience is preferred.



• Initiative and judgment to identify opportunities and anticipate case needs.
