Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Intake Attorney to serve as a key point of contact for prospective clients at its New York, NY office. This role focuses on legal consultation, client intake, and converting qualified consultations into retained matters. The ideal candidate will combine sound legal judgment with strong interpersonal skills to build trust and identify client needs across multiple practice areas.

Duties

• Conduct legal consultations via phone, video conference, and in person to assess prospective clients' needs and preliminary risks.



• Identify appropriate legal solutions and facilitate the execution of engagement agreements for retained matters.



• Transition retained matters to the appropriate attorneys while maintaining accurate consultation records and timely follow-up.



• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth intake processes and assist with substantive legal work as operational needs dictate.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.



• Admission to one or more additional U.S. jurisdictions is strongly preferred.



• Broad working knowledge across multiple areas of U.S. law, including Corporate, Criminal Defense, Family Law, Real Estate, Employment, and Immigration.



• Proven track record of achieving strong consultation-to-retainer conversion rates in a law firm or comparable client-facing environment.



• Ability to manage a high volume of consultations efficiently while maintaining professionalism, responsiveness, and sound judgment regarding legal risk.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.

Skills

• Strong ability to build client trust, communicate value propositions, and convert scheduled consultations into retained matters.



• Experience across multiple practice areas and with international clients or cross-border matters is desired.



• Experience with Clio or similar practice management systems.



• Fluency in Korean is highly desired.



• Strong adaptability and ability to operate effectively within a dynamic international organization.
