Job Overview
A law firm seeks an experienced Registered Patent Attorney to join its team in New Orleans, LA. The position supports the firm's expanding patent prosecution and litigation dockets, with opportunities for both partnership track and staff attorney roles. Candidates based in Baton Rouge, Houston, or The Woodlands will also be considered.
Duties
- Prepare, prosecute, and manage patent and trademark applications.
- Communicate with clients, attorneys, staff, and government offices.
- Manage and coordinate international patent and trademark filings.
- Oversee U.S. and international patent prosecution dockets.
- Prepare patent and trademark clearance searches and opinion letters.
- Draft and respond to IP-related cease-and-desist letters.
- Counsel clients regarding IP-related contracts and documentation.
- Assist with IP litigation.
- Stay current on developments in IP law and practice.
Requirements
- Registered to practice with the USPTO.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in patent prosecution.
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Excellent academic credentials and strong writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and client-service skills.
- Ability to develop and strengthen client and referral relationships.
- Demonstrated track record of high achievement.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
- Strong team-oriented mindset.
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Certifications
- Registered to practice with the USPTO.
