Job Overview

A law firm seeks an associate with 3-6 years of experience in data privacy and cybersecurity to join its growing team in Stamford, CT. The ideal candidate will advise clients on privacy compliance, incident response, and data governance matters.

Duties

• Advise clients on privacy compliance, including U.S. state, GDPR, and federal laws such as GLBA and HIPAA.
• Draft, review, and negotiate privacy policies, data processing agreements, and related documentation.
• Provide counsel on the use of cookies, tracking technologies, and data collection practices.
• Manage cybersecurity incident response, including breach response, ransomware events, and regulator engagement.
• Support time-sensitive incident response matters, including availability outside regular business hours when necessary.

Requirements

• 3-6 years of experience in data privacy and cybersecurity matters.
• Excellent drafting, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong legal research, analytical, and technical abilities.
• Proven ability to manage complex matters with high accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Admission to the bar in the jurisdiction where the candidate will be resident, and in good standing.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction.

Skills

• Experience with data governance, information risk, retention, records, vendor risk, and data transfers.
• Knowledge of regulatory risk assessments and privacy/cybersecurity due diligence.
• Experience with buy-side and sell-side diligence, data transfer reviews, and investment privacy/security diligence.
• Background in regulatory investigation counseling, including representation before the FTC, HHS, and state attorneys general.
