Job Overview
A law firm seeks an experienced Claims Management and Coverage Counsel to join their team in New York, New York. This role offers the flexibility of remote or hybrid work arrangements and involves managing complex claims and coverage matters across various liability lines.

Duties

• Independently manage a claims caseload from notification through resolution.
• Evaluate coverage, liability, and damages for complex liability matters.
• Draft reservation of rights and coverage denial letters.
• Monitor claims and develop handling and resolution strategies.
• Coordinate and manage outside counsel for optimal resolutions.
• Prepare client reports with exposure analysis and reserve recommendations.
• Resolve claims through negotiations and mediation participation.
• Collaborate with attorneys and partners on legal projects.
• Interface regularly with clients, carriers, and outside counsel.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5+ years of legal practice experience in the insurance area.
• Experience handling complex insurance claims and coverage issues.
• Experience drafting coverage opinions and denial letters preferred.
• Prior experience in private practice or claims counseling preferred.
• Superior written and oral communication skills.
• Strong legal research and negotiation skills.
• Ability to assess insurance policies and offer strategic solutions.
• Strong organizational skills for managing a high-volume caseload.

Education

• JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
