Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of experience to join its Intellectual Property group in any of its offices across the Mountain West and beyond. The role involves leveraging advanced technologies in wireless communications, electronics, AI, and software, while providing client counseling and handling post-grant patent work.

Duties

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications with a focus on complex technical inventions.


• Provide strategic intellectual property counseling to clients regarding standards-essential patents and post-grant proceedings.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support innovative technology sectors including cloud computing and data security.


• Engage in pro bono public service work and contribute to firm community-building initiatives.


 

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.


• Experience in wireless telecommunications, communication networks, electrical hardware, or computer networks is preferred.


• A growth mindset with a strong team orientation and ability to thrive in an innovative culture.


• Strong academic record with a technical degree in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, mechanical engineering, or equivalent fields.


 

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.


• Technical degree in engineering, computer science, physics, or related scientific field.


 

Certifications

• Active registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.


 

Skills

• Expertise in standards-related technologies, semiconductors, storage devices, and circuits.


• Proficiency in handling medical devices, digital health, and mechanical inventions.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interaction and legal drafting.
