A law firm seeks a seasoned attorney with 10 to 25 years of construction law experience to join the Litigation Practice Team in Birmingham, MI. The ideal candidate will handle complex construction claims, disputes, and contracts while mentoring associates and contributing to business development efforts.

Duties

• Handle all types of construction claims, including delays, defects, liens, and bonds, serving as lead counsel on complex disputes.
• Draft, review, and negotiate standard form (e.g., AIA, ConsensusDocs) and custom construction contracts.
• Lead and manage construction litigation matters, including trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
• Argue motions, take and defend depositions, and conduct legal research and writing in support of construction disputes.
• Counsel clients on risk management, contract compliance, and dispute avoidance strategies.
• Mentor and collaborate with associates and other members of the litigation practice team.

Requirements

• 10 to 25 years of significant experience in construction law, including both contract work and claims.
• Material experience drafting and negotiating standard form and custom construction contracts.
• Lead trial, arbitration, and administrative proceeding experience with demonstrated first-chair responsibilities.
• Extensive experience leading litigation matters, arguing motions, and conducting depositions, including expert witnesses.
• Admission to the Michigan bar is required; candidates not licensed must be willing to become admitted.

Education

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan.
