Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Medical Malpractice Litigation Associate with a minimum of four years of defense experience to join its team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a nationally recognized team representing physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals in complex medical malpractice and professional liability matters.

Duties

• Defend healthcare providers and institutions in medical malpractice and professional liability litigation across all phases, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, and trial.



• Analyze medical records and collaborate closely with expert witnesses and consulting physicians to build robust defense strategies.



• Draft persuasive motions, briefs, and other litigation-related documents while managing caseloads efficiently to meet strict litigation deadlines.



• Participate in witness preparation, expert development, hearings, mediations, and trials, while providing practical counsel to protect client reputations.



• Collaborate with clients, insurers, risk management professionals, and healthcare administrators to develop strategic defense plans and respond to regulatory investigations.

Requirements

• Minimum of four years of litigation experience, with medical malpractice or liability defense experience preferred but not required.



• Active membership in good standing with the North Carolina Bar, or the ability to waive in.



• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, including a demonstrated aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.



• Comfortable handling depositions and court appearances commensurate with experience level.



• Thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal rules of procedure.

Education

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active membership in good standing with the North Carolina Bar (or ability to waive in).

• Ability to work effectively with a variety of attorneys and staff while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
