Job Overview

Duties

• Provide substantive legal counsel on laws governing health and welfare plans, including ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, the Consolidated Appropriation Act, and COBRA.



• Draft and review plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and other essential plan communications.



• Negotiate service provider agreements and engage in sophisticated, cutting-edge work within the employee benefits field.

Requirements

• Three to eight years of professional experience with health and welfare employee benefit plans.



• Demonstrated expertise in drafting plan documents and negotiating service provider agreements.



• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, collegial work environment with a strong focus on professional development.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in California.

Skills

• Deep understanding of ERISA, Internal Revenue Code (including Section 125 cafeteria plans), Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, CAA, and COBRA.



• Strong analytical and drafting skills for complex legal documents.



• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
