Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Counsel attorney to join its growing Labor & Employment practice in Irvine, California. This role offers substantial opportunities for direct client interaction, case management, courtroom advocacy, and trial experience in sophisticated employment litigation and counseling matters for employers, corporations, and public entities.

Duties

• Manage a sophisticated caseload of 10-20 employment litigation matters from inception through resolution, including active investigation and strategy development.



• Assess complaints filed in state and federal court, draft and respond to discovery, and analyze documents for production.



• Conduct legal research, take and defend expert and fact depositions, and draft pleadings, motions, and pre-trial documents.



• Attend hearings, argue motions, and prepare cases for mediation and trial, including co-chairing trials with direct and cross-examination of witnesses.



• Actively report to clients and provide strategic advice on issues such as discipline, termination, and reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

• Significant labor and employment litigation experience representing employers, with public entity experience strongly encouraged.



• Admitted to the California Bar and in good standing.



• Demonstrated experience in independently managing litigation matters through all phases of the case lifecycle.



• Exceptional legal research, writing, and communication skills, with strong oral advocacy and interpersonal abilities.



• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and identify problems quickly.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in the State of California.

Skills

• Expertise in handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, and court appearances.



• Ability to mentor and guide junior associates.



• Strong project management and client relationship skills.
