Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent to work remotely from California, Arizona, New York, or Hawaii. The firm specializes in patent preparation and prosecution, focusing on electrical engineering, circuits, computer science, computer networking, and semiconductors. Candidates with 1-3+ years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Duties

• Analyze patents and other technical documents.
• Identify distinctions between inventions and earlier publications.
• Draft arguments and responses to Patent Office communications.
• Meet with inventors to discuss new inventions.
• Draft patent applications for new inventions.
• Interface with foreign law firms to obtain patents in other countries.
• Collaborate with in-house attorneys at client organizations.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or similar field.
• Coursework or experience with analog and digital circuits, RF circuitry, semiconductors, electromagnetism, optics, computer programming, and/or computer networking.
• Prior experience in patent preparation, patent prosecution, a law firm environment, and/or IP.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Outstanding attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.

Education

• Undergraduate degree or higher in relevant field.

Certifications

• Patent bar registration preferred.
