Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with expertise in high technology to join its New York City, NY office. The candidate will work within the Intellectual Property practice area, focusing on patent prosecution for cutting-edge innovations.

Duties

• Review invention disclosure documents and conduct invention disclosure meetings.
• Conduct prior searches, review references, and analyze patentability.
• Draft patent applications.
• Review USPTO office actions, formulate response strategies, conduct examiner interviews, and draft and file responses.
• Manage U.S. and foreign dockets.
• Analyze patents in connection with due diligence and/or freedom to operate analyses.

Requirements

• USPTO admission is preferred.
• At least one year of patent prosecution experience, preferably involving artificial intelligence and/or machine learning.
• Experience in technologies such as software, hardware and devices, database technology, wireless technologies, and image and/or signal processing.
• Prior work experience in a law firm preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of professionalism in engaging with demanding clients.
• Ability to balance and prioritize multiple competing priorities and responsibilities.
• Highly organized with extreme attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in team settings.

Education

• Technical background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.

Certifications

• USPTO admission preferred.
