Genesis10 is currently seeking a SENIOR WAN NETWORK ENGINEER
for a permanent position working with a leading international financial services client in the CHARLOTTE, NC area.
ROLE:
The role of the Wide Area Network (WAN) Engineering Manager requires both deep technical and business understanding. The WAN Engineering Manager requires expertise in all disciplines of wide area network related technology provided by Network Services, and should be able to speak with authority to both business technical staff and to the Network and Security Services Product Engineering, Implementation Engineering, and Operational teams responsible for these technologies. The WAN Engineering Manager also has expertise in the business activities undertaken by the supported technical executive, and should know the business. The WAN Engineering team that this individual manages is technology focused, where each engineer is responsible for performing detailed designs pertaining to the wide area, metro, and optical networks for the company. The WAN Engineering Manager ensures that designs are delivered within the key performance indicators used to measure the success of the team.
Directs, manages, plans and administers the operational and administrative activities of the Systems Engineering section.
Supports multiple systems through maintenance, modification, problem resolution, etc. to support ongoing delivery of services and/or operations.
Manages multiple applications/development projects, or single major complex initiatives if a small area of the development function.
Coordinates resources across various applications, operations or projects.
Responsible for staffing, performance management and compensation decision-making.
Manages budget, monitors progress and adjusts resources and priorities accordingly.
Provides input on policy issues.
Typically 7-10 years of experience in managing and directing multi-project development teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees a senior, highly qualified team of WAN / MAN / Optical network engineers responsible for designing network solutions to business technology requirements.
Able to develop technology designs, develop cost forecasts, supervise the implementation of these designs, verify their proper completion, and act as a consultant for any issues encountered over the project lifecycle.
Able to work across multiple shared engineering teams, business aligned engineering teams, technology staff, and with external engineering vendors to assemble personnel resources and skill sets required to deliver engineering solutions.
Responsible for all engineering pertaining to the company’s U.S. Domestic Core network, Global Core network, boundary networks, private line, and business partners wide area networks.
Capable of working with line-of-business and business technology staff to understand and meet project requirements.
Acts as a trusted partner to provide solutions to their needs.
Engages in high severity business impacting production incidents and problem tickets to work through to resolution as Level 3 / 4 engineering support.
Able to adjust designs to meet business-required levels of cost, reliability, functionality, global regulatory compliance, and data security.
Able to understand, formulate, and communicate complex designs with other technology partners within Technology Infrastructure.
Able to manage WAN / MAN / Optical engineering team workload capacity and required skill sets effectively against project demand, maintaining financial plan.
Assists in the training of employees and responsible for maintaining continuous technology training program for engineers.
Engages program management and product engineering teams for process and application improvement opportunities.
Reviews system documentation for accuracy and updates as necessary.
Provides feedback to product teams as to the catalog of standard products, and business requirements for changes to the catalog.
Establishes and is responsible for all Key Performance Indicators for the WAN / MAN / Optical Engineering team.
REQUIREMENTS:
BS or BA in engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience
15 Years of experience in networking industry.
Prior engineering management experience, inclusive of commercial and resource demand vs. capacity forecasting in the WAN / MAN / Optical space
Experience in the design of large multi-tiered IP and optical networks using best practices for including highly resilient design elements, Quality of Service (QoS), Multicast, MPLS, Traffic Engineering, and WAN Optimization.
Familiarization with optical technologies, optical systems design, capacity planning, and IPv6 favorable.
Knowledge of Cisco ISR, 7600, ASR 1000 and 9000, and CRS platforms. Competing platform knowledge with Juniper and Alcatel-Client a plus.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Applicable certifications in the WAN / MAN / Optical space (Cisco CCIE or equivalent Industry certification).
DESIRED SKILLS:
Expertise with Cisco networking products, knowledge of other vendors such as Juniper.
Alcatel-Client is a plus.
Cisco CCIE or equivalent Industry certification.
