Associate General Counsel
The candidate will join the University at an exciting and critical juncture in the history of the University and of higher education more broadly. Reports directly to the SVP/General Counsel & Board Secretary and will be responsible for real estate planning, land use, and environmental issues as well as oversight of transactional document preparation and review. Will support auxiliary enterprises, including Aloha Tower Marketplace event planning and coordination. Will reduce the likelihood for inappropriate, unnecessary, or costly institutional liability in contractual agreements and terms or business arrangements by reviewing and/or preparing contracts and other legal documents for execution by or on behalf of the University. Will have a laser focus on strategic and campus master planning in FY 2017 and the near term. Will provide cutting edge advice on legal issues related to mixed-use property development, commercial leasing and shopping center development while leading land use and entitlement strategy and efforts for master planned development, including development approvals, permits and variances. Will advise senior leadership on environmental remediation issues and risks, environmental compliance, clean-up and development while resolving operational and real estate related disputes prior to litigation, including matters involving lease interpretation, site management and use restrictions. Will be tasked with supporting the senior leadership team on critical legal issues impacting business operations and initiatives while ensuring compliance and minimizing risk. Will: develop and implement procedures and draft form documents for property events and programming; advise, draft and implement best in class environmental compliance programs, including Clean Water Act compliance; and draft policies and procedures for response and engagement on sensitive matters, including site security and trespass protocols.
