Healthcare/Litigation Attorney
Candidate will work closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor and General Counsel at the School of Medicine. Will have significant interaction with the Executive Vice Chancellor and General Counsel. Will be responsible for providing legal advice for a wide variety of medical school and university areas. A key area of responsibility will involve oversight of the medical professional liability program, including management of all aspects of professional liability claims and litigation; supervision of outside counsel and direction of internal risk management personnel; and working with excess insurers and insurance brokers to secure excess professional liability insurance and cyber insurance. Will also provide advice and counsel to university leadership on numerous issues involving the clinical practice of medicine, such as patient safety and risk management, professional licensure and credentialing, impaired and disruptive provider issues, informed consent, guardianship matters and advanced directives, bioethical issues, EMTALA, medical records, HIPAA privacy, and other issues. Will also be responsible for handling graduate medical education issues and agreements, collaborative practice agreements and practice issues, and other complex healthcare regulatory and contracting matters. Will report to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Deputy General Counsel and Chief Litigation Counsel.
