Job Summary

Responsible for selection of testing equipment and managing to a capital budget for the test threads. Directs and provides oversight for the execution of detailed testing efforts on new and existing products and services. Monitors testing activities. Implements and maintains technical quality assurance and control systems and activities. Specifies the implementation of standards, methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision, accuracy and reliability of company products. Oversees the review of engineering designs for quality requirements and considerations. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Develops financial and operational objectives. Ensures operational plans are aligned with business objectives. Contributes to functional strategy development. Has a greater degree of impact on business results and typically manages one or more groups of professional employees.

About the Team:

The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Physical and Environmental (P&E) test team researches new technologies, evaluates new products, manage engineering changes, performs root cause analysis of field issues, and executes on quality assurance verification of devices deployed into the network and into our customers' homes. The Sr. Manager of the P&E lab supports these efforts by leading a team of engineers in testing devices for performance and reliability.

What You'll Do:


Leads a team of engineers responsible for physical and environmental testing of Products (headend, outside plant, and CPE equipment) for deployment into the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. network.

Works with internal customers to ensure clear expectations on test cases, parameters, and reports.

Works with project management to define schedules and any special equipment/tool needs in order to properly test the Products.

Provides technical direction and consultation with regards to test methodologies for mechanical tests (drop, impact, tensile, vibration, flex, etc.), environmental (temperature, humility, moisture migration, altitude, UV, salt spray, galvanic corrosion, etc.), electromagnetic compatibility (AC/DC power conditions, radiated immunity, conducted immunity, electrostatic discharge, surge withstand, and regulatory compliance (FCC, UL, IEEE, SCTE/CableLabs, Telcordia, etc.).

Works with internal customers and external vendors to resolve hardware issues using problem solving processes such as the 8D. Ensures that work/escalated issues are addressed and completed in a timely manner and that delays and revised timeframes are communicated to affected parties.

Ensures product problems are properly identified and prioritized in the formal defect tracking system and change control process to determine release-readiness.

Assesses, makes recommendations to and manages within a budget. Makes informed decisions and choices on lab test equipment purchases based upon technology direction and product testing need.

Evaluates current processes for opportunities for efficiency and accuracy through process improvements and test automation.

Collaborates with department director and technical leaders to identify, define and measure departmental key goals.


Skills & Experience We're Looking For:


Knowledge of DOCSIS technology, RF propagation (free space, transmission lines), fiber optic technology

Experience working with industry standards and regulatory compliances such as IEC, IEEE, MIL, ASTM, Telcordia, FCC, UL

Extensive experience with laboratory test equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, EMC receivers, oscilloscopes, time domain reflectometers

Strong technical report writing and technical presentation skills

Previous experience leading engineering teams

Strong communication skills, which includes executive presentations

Ability to develop the skills and knowledge of a team
