The Precision Medicine Project
– part of the newly established Skaggs Institute for Health Innovation
-- is under the direction of Dr. Erica Woodahl, an expert in pharmacogenomics with emphasis on engaging rural and underserved populations in precision medicine research. The Precision Medicine Project focuses on identifying sources of interindividual variability in disease treatment and prevention. We are interested in genetic and environmental factors that alter the pharmacokinetics, or ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination), and pharmacodynamics of many therapeutic compounds. Translation of pharmacogenomics into clinical practice requires genetic research with diverse patient populations to accurately predict drug response and toxicity for all people. Towards this end, we have partnered with health systems across Montana to implement precision medicine and pharmacogenomic innovations for rural, tribal, and other underserved populations.
The mission of the Department of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences is to offer a dynamic curriculum in the pharmaceutical sciences in support of the professional pharmacy degree and strong graduate programs.
