Job Description

VIPER, we are perfecting a massively scaled video over IP stack supporting tens of millions of customers watching live TV, VOD, and recorded (DVR) content every day. The Video Packaging Core Development team writes, maintains, and tests the components at the heart of this software stack. This team owns several real-time systems handling video tasks ranging from segmenting UDP-sourced live video to building MP4 segments out of raw H.264 packets.

The Video Packager team is seeking an experienced software engineer to lead its automated validation efforts. As the Principal Software Engineer of Video Packaging Automated Validation, you will:


Design and implement new systems-level validation tools

Maintain, refactor, and extend existing validation tools

Lead a team of three software development engineers

Learn the intricacies of real-time video packaging and Digital Rights Management (DRM)

Make data-driven decisions in collaboration with the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team

Teach validation techniques to software engineers of all backgrounds and experience levels

Serve as a domain specialist on continuous validation for senior leadership

Be an important member of a diverse team of smart and collaborative people

The ideal candidate for this role:


Is an expert in automated validation of complex systems

Has 10 years of experience writing software, including a strong background in C, C , or Go

Has experience working with software on multiple levels, from low-level C memory management to concurrent distributed systems

Is comfortable with GDB, Docker, and Continuous Integration systems (e.g. Concourse)

Has experience applying validation techniques like fuzzing, dynamic code instrumentation, or property-based testing

Has excellent written and spoken communication skills and an ability to find consensus in broad and diverse groups

Is creative, open-minded, and hungry to learn and experiment

Pay Range: $121,100.91 - $181,651.36
