PositionnOverview AnProduct Design Engineer (PDE) is an exciting, technically challenging, andnrewarding role!  A PDE is a trustedntechnical problem solver with a broad technical background and goodncommunication skills whose contribution can significantly impact the performancenof the organization.  The PDE isnresponsible for moderating and optimizing multiple engineering sub-disciplinesnto find the BEST answer to complex machinery design, performance, andnreliability challenges.  ThenProduct Design Engineer has a lead technical role in the flange-to-flangendesign of engineered-to-order aftermarket turbomachinery equipment includingncentrifugal compressors, axial compressors, and hot gas expanders.  The projects are aftermarket in nature whichncan add unique challenges/situations requiring substantial creative andntechnical problem-solving skills to moderate between all product constraints,ne.g. product performance, product reliability, cost/time to produce,nmanufacturability, etc....  Thensuccessful candidate will have an interest and competency in machinery design,nbe a team player, and is expected to assume a leadership role within ancollaborative design team including, but not limited to, a technicalnspecialist/layout drafter, detail drafter, project engineer,  systems/package engineer, core technologynspecialist, and service center/factory assembly team, as required. Equallynimportant to this role, is the growth experience this position offers thensuccessful applicant beyond just the design engineering function. This positionnoffers the applicant the ability to interact with the global Siemensnorganization and potentially expand their role well beyond product designnengineering function to include solution development, technical sales,noperations, and have field experiences. ResponsibilitiesnWorknsafely following all corporate / local procedures and timely completion of allnrequired safety trainingMaintainnaccurate and organized engineering recordsFollownall processes and obtain necessary approvals where requiredPerformnengineering investigation and analysis of various compressor and expanderndesigns to determine feasibility of rerate, revamp, and upgrades that can addnperformance/reliability capabilities to the machinery and also extend itsnuseful lifeCollaboratenwith the solution development team in the development of commercial offerings,nas requiredProvidennecessary engineering to support design and manufacture of replacementnmachinery, machinery revamps, and machinery upgrades, e.g. compressors, expanders,npumpsLeadnproduct engineering design coordination, collaboration, and moderation ofncomplex technical matters with stakeholders including: CAD Designers; variousnSpecialist Engineers, e.g. aero/thermo-dynamicists, rotor-dynamicists,nmetallurgists, solid mechanics analysts, manufacturing engineers, etc; andnfield service personnelDesignnspecial tooling/fixtures/components to support routine or special project tasksnrelated to product maintenance and testingPerformndesign analysis and make effective decisions within approved guidelines andnestablished product standardsEnsurenproduct designs are in accordance with contract requirements for the supply ofnhardwareIdentifyndeviations to established standards for management approvalParticipatenin coordination, collaboration, and moderation of technical matters withnstakeholders from manufacturing and supply chain, e.g. 1) Investigatendeviations and provide corrective actions; 2) review and approve first articlenprocess qualification reports associated with new processes or suppliersAnalyzentest results (field or factory), to evaluate and determine if thermodynamicnperformance, design performance, quality, and operating characteristics arencompliant with product designParticipatenin and/or conduct process and design FMEA and RCA as a part of cross-functionalnteam, as requiredProvidenleadership and technical direction to repair operations in the inspection,nrepair, overhaul and remanufacturing process on legacy and non-legacy machineryParticipatenin development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement ofndesign tools, product improvements, and engineering standards associated withndesign, manufacturing, testing, and repair of turbomachinery productsOthernmiscellaneous duties to support the product lines successRequirednKnowledge/Skills, Education, and ExperienceBachelor’sndegree in engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical/Aerodynamic, or equivalentndegrees from an ABET accredited college/university will be considered) 0-2 years’ experience  foundational knowledge of these subjects isnrequired:  machinery design,nrotordynamics, strength-of-materials / solid mechanics,nmaterials-of-construction selection, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, fluidndynamicsStrongnanalytical skills and the ability to perform detailed engineering calculationsHighnattention to detail.Abilitynto work collaboratively and individually with the same enthusiasm andnintensity.Excellentncommunication, interpersonal, and writing skillsPossessnand demonstrate a high degree of tact and professionalism; and be capable ofninteracting with Management, Peers, Shop Personnel, and ClientsGoodnorganizational and time management skillsSolidncomputer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,nOutlook, Power-Point) and basic 2D/3D CADWillingnand able to travel domestically and internationally with short noticen(estimated 5-15% travel) PreferrednKnowledge/Skills, Education, and ExperienceMaster’sndegree Highnlevel knowledge of these subjects is desirable: n:  thermodynamics, aerodynamics,nfluid dynamics, rotordynamics, strength-of-materials / solid mechanics,nmaterials-of-construction selection, machinery design.Knowledgenand understanding of Siemens / Dresser-Rand’s products and services Experiencenworking with rotating machinery / turbo-machinery such as centrifugal/radialncompressors, axial compressors, expandersPossessnfundamental knowledge of turbomachinery theory and thorough understanding ofnstandard engineering principlesExperiencenworking for a major rotating equipment supplier, machinery reliabilitynengineer, and/or EPC  Experiencenwith machinery design, production, and/or or servicing Familiaritynand experience with industry standards such as ASME and APIQualified Applicants must benlegally authorized for employment in the United States.
