Goulston & Storrs’ Business Development Department is fast-paced, exciting, and entrepreneurial. Our goal is to set the standard for law firm business development departments through our relationships both internally and externally. As a team, our collective commitment is to:
Provide education to our clients (firm members)
Infuse best practices into all areas of sales and service
Use analysis as the foundation for our approach to the market
Create targeted, innovative pitch/proposal materials and new business pursuit initiatives
Support and enable the firm as a business and community leader
OVERVIEW
The Business Development Specialist will:
Be a high-energy, creative professional with strong communication skills.
Work with Business Development colleagues and individual attorneys to identify, develop, and follow through on business development, relationship growth, and other activities.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Support strategy and execution through the full lifecycle of pitches, proposals, RFPs, and other new business opportunities, ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion of proposed teams. This includes preparing presentation materials/RFP responses and following up to spark dialogue on outcomes.
Work with Business Development colleagues to help create individual business plans and apply the sales process to clients, prospects, and referral sources. This includes helping individual and groups of attorneys prepare for, maximize investment in, and follow up on industry conferences and networking events.
Collaboratively coordinate and manage the firm’s CRM software, which includes ensuring the entry of accurate, complete, and timely data into the system using standardized processes within the department. This includes helping execute and update our new quarterly business development dashboard, which tracks and reports to stakeholders on firmwide business and client development activities.
Serve as key point of contact (internally and externally) for the firm’s client entertainment assets, helping coordinate, manage, and distribute tickets to sports and entertainment events.
Coordinate with members of the Client Value, Legal Talent, Finance, and other internal teams, as needed.
Help plan and execute firm-sponsored events, which includes serving as the face of the firm at business, community, and networking events.
Provide support for cross-selling opportunities within and among assigned practices, industries, committees, and other subgroups.
Coordinate and support initiatives of the Business Development Committee, as assigned.
Support the firm’s participation in referral network Meritas through coordination of website maintenance, referral reporting, etc.
Identify opportunities to coordinate and integrate with the Research Services Team on business and competitive intelligence, including with respect to clients, prospects, referral sources, competitors, and peers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Proven ability to provide exceptional client service to internal stakeholders and external clients.
Demonstrates understanding of sales support, theory, and techniques.
Maintains industry knowledge to respond to questions effectively and confidently.
Meticulous attention to detail, including strong proofreading and business writing skills.
Strong MS Office skills.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree is preferred, as is overall experience totaling more than five years.
