Staff Attorneys
The candidates will focus on housing advocacy; consumer protection advocacy. Duties include: Providing genuinely effective legal representation and advice to low-income clients who may be victims of illegal evictions, bankruptcy, consumer, employment and public benefit issues, among other matters. Will represent clients in North Carolina state and federal courts, and in state and federal administrative proceedings. Our staff attorneys are trained on, and expected to employ, techniques and principles of trauma-informed advocacy in their interactions with clients. Engage in a variety of community lawyering efforts, providing outreach and legal education to a wide range of groups and associations working to reduce poverty in community. Expected to take on other responsibilities that may be assigned. Should have North Carolina Bar license. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with clients, other attorneys, court personnel, and the general public are required. Preference will be given to applicants with Spanish proficiency and fluency.
