The candidate will serves as primary liaison in P&C Legal for the Great American Insurance Group’s Crop Division, participating in management level discussions within the division and serving as primary point of contact for all crop-related legal issues. Serves as subject matter expert on the P&C Legal team on the business of crop insurance, including understanding the federal Risk Management Agency’s compliance requirements and the standard term and conditions of the federal crop reinsurance program; monitors and advises on Agency activity, including bulletins and crop insurance handbooks; advises the Crop Division on regulatory and compliance matters. Oversees and advises on claim disputes, including arbitrations and other proceedings; works to resolve disputes efficiently. Oversees outside counsel representing the Crop Division in claim disputes. Acts as key liaison, on behalf of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., with the key crop insurance trade association (National Crop Insurance Services), including attending regular meetings and assisting the Crop Division with its decisions on how to engage with this association and how to be strategic with regard to government affairs. Also monitors and advises on changes to federal legislation and regulations, including the Farm Bill. Works closely with subject matter experts on the P&C Legal team to counsel the Crop Division on operational issues, from contracts, to insurance regulations, to producer matters. Handles other matters as part of the P&C Legal team, as needed. Excellent academic credentials, including a JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law. 8+ years of prior experience in a law firm or corporate setting are required. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization. Experience drafting agreements is preferred. Common sense, good judgment, and solution-oriented attitude toward legal issues. Ability to problem solve and to provide practical, risk-based advice. Communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to work independently and in a team. Prior experience in crop insurance is helpful, but not required; training and education on crop insurance provided for the right candidate. Prior experience with litigation is helpful.
