This position is responsible for inspections and enforcement activities to obtain compliance with City codes and standards. Inspections are conducted by surveillance, systematic door-to-door review in specific target areas, and in response to public's request(s) for service. Performance of duties requires knowledge of municipal codes; the ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in seeking code compliance through voluntary cooperation; issuing notices of violation and county court citations; and when noncompliance persists, formal code enforcement action. Must be able to exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy when addressing the public. Performance is reviewed through observation, records, reports, and conferences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of municipal codes including the methods and techniques used in conducting code enforcement inspections.
Familiarity with land development concepts and building construction methods and materials.
Ability to read, interpret, and enforce various codes, ordinances, department policies and regulations exercising good judgment and impartiality; communicate effectively verbally and in writing and prepare clear and concise reports; explain violations and requirements necessary for compliance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and co-workers; read and interpret basic construction plans and property surveys; perform basic clerical work; and operate a City vehicle.
Training, Certification, and Experience
High school graduate, or acceptable GED, supplemented by completion of some college level course; experience in public relations and/ or construction with reasonable public contact.
Or, an equivalent combination of training and experience with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) training desirable.
Special Requirements
Valid Florida driver’s license.
Ability to become a Notary Public within the first year of employment.
