Professional Liability & Risk Manager
The candidate will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director and Director with the development of risk management, patient safety, and professional liability programs. Participates in risk event identification and analysis; proactively identifies potential risk and evaluates potential impact. Develops and implements plans to capture, track, and trend risk management data for near misses, adverse events, incidents, unexpected outcomes, claims, and potential litigation. Responsible for in-depth clinical review and analysis of identified Potentially Compensable Events (PCEs) reported risk events through chart reviews, physician and other clinical provider interviews, consulting with Patient Safety Medical Directors, and other leadership. Provides clinical oversight and evaluation of risk events including, but not limited to, near misses, adverse events, incidents, unexpected outcomes, claims, and potential litigation. Manages liability issues by negotiating and resolving claims within assigned authority, assigning attorneys as needed, providing oversight and evaluation during the claims process, approving litigation expenses, attending depositions, mediations and trials. Assists with the development of risk and professional liability, patient safety, risk management philosophies, standards, guidelines, and manuals. Compiles and analyzes reports for claims and lawsuits, new/increased reserves, closed cases, aggregate loss experience, and other information for carriers, auditors, actuaries, and internal committees. Acts as liaison between the clinical risk managers and the claims risk managers, and also assists the insurance manager with facilitation of insurance reporting. Acts as liaison between hospital and insurance carriers as needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
