Summer Associate Program, 2021
The firm holds a firmwide summer associate orientation to kick off the program, where summer associates get an introduction to the firm, how the program works and what the expectations are, an introduction to legal writing, as well as other information needed on first couple days of work in order to jump right in and get started on the first assignment. Throughout the summer, the firm will hold training and information programs for summer associates that are scaled-back versions of programs that are part of Training Curriculum for associates, including the following: mock depositions; mock negotiations; communication & presentation skills; implementing feedback; pro bono opportunities; and social media & personal branding. Summer associates themselves select the assignments they work on throughout the summer from the database of available projects. By working on high-level client projects, summer associates work closely with teams of seasoned attorneys. The assignment selection process encourages summer associates to seek out assignments from practice groups of interest, and to explore areas they have not been exposed to. Summer associates also have lots of opportunities to accompany attorneys at hearings, depositions, client interviews and meetings, and closings. The firm encourages all summer associates to work on at least one pro bono assignment during the program. The firm allows summer associates to split on a case-by-case basis, but 2Ls should work a minimum of six weeks during the first half of the summer.
