The candidate assumes the important responsibility of representation and litigation on behalf of the Department of Child Safety (DCS), formerly known as Child Protective Services (CPS) in civil cases involving abuse and neglect of children. Responsibilities include to, providing advice on child welfare law and representing DCS in court on cases involving dependency, termination of parental rights, guardianship, and adoption matters statewide at the trial court level. Appear in court almost daily, engage in many levels of litigation and receive ongoing and in-depth litigation training. In addition to representing DCS on its mission to keep children safe, PSS attorneys have the opportunity to positively impact the safety and well-being of children.
