Job Summary:
 
Under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor, the Groundkeeper maintains the landscape, grounds and applicable equipment of the hospital and properties of, and assigned, to Mercy Medical Center.
 
Essential Duties:


Consults with and keeps supervisor and peers informed of activities, needs and problems related to grounds and maintenance.

Prepares and grades terrain.  Applies fertilizers.  Seeds and/or sods lawns. Mows, trims and repairs established lawns.  Prunes trees and trims shrubs. Cultivates, plants and weeds gardens and flowerbeds.  

Sprays trees, shrubs and plants. Applies nutrients for lawn and plant growth.

Connects, maintains, designs and installs sprinkler systems and equipment. Waters lawns, flower beds/gardens, shrubs and trees. 

Inspects and performs minor repairs to equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers and lawn/garden tractors.

Cares for and maintains equipment and supplies used in the performance of duties.

Maintains appropriate records and reports.','!*!License/Certification:


Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license. Driving record is clear of any chargeable accidents involving negligence within the previous 36 months, more than 2 moving violations in the previous 12 months, more than 4 moving violations in the previous 36 months, or any felony conviction, or D.W.I/D.U.I. conviction.
Experience:


Must be able to communicate written and orally and be able to perform simple math tasks.

Must have a working knowledge of care and maintenance of lawns, plants and shrubs.

Must be able to perform basic maintenance and repairs to grounds equipment. 

Must be experienced in the operation of powered equipment such as lawn and garden tractors, ditch trenchers and a backhoe.

Small Catapillar tractor experience highly desirable.

Applicant must have good eye/hand coordination and be able to detect unusual noises, vibrations and fatigue of equipment.
Education:
