General Counsel
Duties: Provide guidance to campus locations on a variety of legal matters, and will work close. Will also assist the General Counsel with employment and higher education related legal matters including litigation and arbitration, administrative and agency proceedings, in addition to various other legal tasks. Work together to address and resolve complex employment and student matters with various internal departments inclusive of the Academics Department, Regulatory Affairs Department, Financial Aid Department and Student Services Department. Draft reports with detailed investigation findings; assist in drafting company policies and procedures; contract drafting and negotiation. Creation and presentation of training materials to be presented to students, faculty, administration, and management. Provide day-to-day advisement to senior management of student and employment matters. Maintain Vatterott’s intellectual property rights, including trademark filings. Travel to each Vatterott campus location and conduct presentation visits with students, faculty and staff. Manage the Legal Department and work closely with the Human Resources Department on special projects as necessary including working with outside counsel. Assist outside counsel with certain aspects of litigation, including but not limited to drafting litigation-based documents, such as pleadings, motions, and discovery responses; coordinating witnesses for deposition, and providing support with discovery preparation. Investigate and draft appropriate responses to outside agency complaints, including but not limited to the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, OSHA, Department of Labor, Department of Education, and the Office of Civil Right. Contract drafting and negotiations including agreements related to marketing, real estate, commercial transactions. Work closely with insurance brokers and carries on insurance claims. Ensure that the college is aware of and in compliance with all pertinent Federal and State laws and regulations.
