Executive Director
Duties: Promoting the Center’s mission, teaching and scholarship. In consultation with the Center’s Faculty Director, the ED will design and manage center initiatives, programs, and events, and achieve programmatic success while working with multiple stakeholders. Will assist the Faculty Director in developing new fundraising initiative for the Center—in particular by developing programing to involve over one hundred alums of the Center’s Originalism Summer Seminar that will encourage their financial support of the Center. Will initiate and manage key relationships with the Center’s Faculty Scholars and the Center’s Program Manager, support faculty priorities and student interests, strengthen and promote the Center’s ongoing projects including the Originalism Constitution website and MOOCs, and ensure that internal and external partnerships are aligned, consistent, and effective. Many of these projects have proven themselves to be beyond the current resources of the Center’s Faculty Director and Program Manager Center
The candidate will have significant experience in and strong knowledge of the field of constitutional law, constitutional theory, originalism, as well as teaching experience, administrative experience, and strong leadership skills. Like the Executive Directors of other Centers, the ED will teach a course to JD Degree students. In addition, the Executive Director will organize an “Originalism Reading Group,” a series of educational programming available to all students which covers the history and development of originalism and its theories and permutations, as well as originalism in practice. Such a program was successfully implemented by law professor Tara Helfman, a previous Visiting Scholar of the Center, who is now in government. Reports directly to the Georgetown Center for the Constitution’s Faculty Director. Will supervise programming and Research Assistants and will have significant interaction with Staff, Students, and Faculty across the Law Center. Will collaborate with academic and administrative teams along with other Centers and Institutes. Will share office space and regularly collaborate with the Center’s Program Manager. Interactions will also include external parties and partners. Work closely with the Faculty Director and Program Manager to ensure support for faculty, fellows, students, and coordinate outreach to alumni of Center programming and fellowships which includes scholars, professors, students, practitioners, and judges; and to strengthen the Center’s relationships with constituents, its position as a thought leader on constitutional law theory and interpretation, and to further originalism scholarship.
