Deployment Manager - IT Integrated Releases

Profile

Current Need


* Responsible for planning, managing and deployment of a large number enhancement/support projects including application and infrastructure components as part of release based ITSM delivery model.


* Assist Release manager with release schedule and Iterative planning cycle to develop detailed release plans to build test and deploy a large number of SAP related projects.

* Manages and controls the movement of releases through the release lifecycle


* Facilitates iterative release planning cycle by gaining commitments from delivery/technical teams prior to release commencement.

* Partners with other release stakeholders (Solution/Account Managers, Portfolio & Project Managers, SV&T, Delivery Center Leads) to monitor release status, identify and remediate issues, validates completion of all release activities, escalates risks and issues as required.

* Oversees release deployment to ensure no adverse impact to production services and ensures the technical integrity of the applications

* Ensures that all release and deployment packages can be tracked, installed, tested, verified, and/or uninstalled or backed out

Position Description


Responsible for the successful delivery of Integrated service releases:



* Assist with release schedule/calendar, produces detailed release plans, controls release scope


* Responsibility for creating all the required release plans, reporting in accordance with the standards, and communicating the schedule and its effects to all impacted stakeholders

* Management teams to review change backlog and priorities

* Follows deployment processes/procedures and incorporates into overall plans.







* Manages and controls the movement of releases through the release lifecycle


* Release Planning


* Assist Release manager during the release planning process in accessing complexity of projects

* Liaise with Delivery Teams leads to understand/validate available release capacity and Build plans

* Incorporates work from external service providers into release plan as necessary

* Facilitate preliminary release plan reviews with Delivery Teams and ensure dependencies are addressed

* Iterate release plans during planning process, balancing supply/demand/priorities

* Gain commitments from Delivery Teams to complete final release plan



* Release Build/Test Management


* Work with Delivery Team resources during release periods to make adjustments as required ensuring internally consistent integrated release plan

* Work closely & coordinates with Project Managers/Delivery Team Leads to monitor and track project and release Risks and Issues.

* Identify and facilitate resolution of any capacity, environment, system constraints/conflicts

* Ensure proper cross-platform and cross-release integration

* Coordinate with Project Managers, Release Test Managers and SV&T Coordinator throughout the release

* Plan and enforce release policies & exit criteria within several phases of delivery life cycle.

* Responsible for overall release status reporting & facilitation of measurement criteria to prove success/failure of the delivery.

* Guide Release Test Managers to ensure consistency & quality at a release level during all aspects of the delivery process.



* Deployment Management


* Facilitate Deployment planning & ensures successful transition through early life support phase. Plans and enforces release policies & exit criteria within several phases of delivery life cycle.

* Create and manage detailed deployment plans, schedules, timelines and milestones and manages cross work-streams, keeps on top of dependencies along with Integration Management.

* Approve changes in conjunction with CAB to be released & ensures appropriate deployment to live environments.

* Ensure implementations are traceable, secure, and that only the correct, authorized and tested versions are installed in production environments.

* Ensure that all release and deployment packages can be tracked, installed, tested, verified, and/or uninstalled or backed out if appropriate and deviations recorded

Continually improve McKesson IT Release Mangement service



* Ensure proper Service Transtion KPIs, measures and controls are clearly defined, executed and acted upon throughout all phases of the BTS services’ lifecycle.

* Use performance metrics, analysis and stakeholder feedback to identify improvement opportunieis

* Engage required resouces and facilitate efforts to improve service value

* Ensure release quality as measured by post-release severity one defects.

* Releases at or under budget

* Identified opportunities for improving business processes that result in profitability improvements.



Customer



* Productive working relationship with Account Management, Delivery Centers and Program and Release Management peers

* Met or exceeded OLA and process standard commitments

* Ensured customer satisfaction index is above target level

Operational and Internal Processes



* Efficient & effective delivery of Releases as measured by defined KPIs

* Minimal disruptions caused to the McKesson IT Services as measured by post-deployment severity one defects

* Identified process improvements and gained additional efficiencies

* Effectively managed internal processes and achieved target performance levels, which are measured through process KPIs

* Effective collaboration & partnership with Service/Product Management, Delivery/Technical Service Centers in Applications and Infrastructure areas, and any Vendor delivery models as needed.

Minimum Requirements


* 10 years experience in designing, building, and implementing business solutions which may include using information technology. Significant experience in project management, requirements definition and/ or deployment of business requirements to information systems





Additional Knowledge & Skills


* Experienced in SAP/Applications Maintenance & Infrastructure & solutions delivery and related processes strongly desired.

12 years professional experience in business or technical position



*


5 years in a similar service role, e.g., release manager, program manager, SAP deployment/project manager



*


Demonstrated experience in delivery of solutions in the ERP / Applications Maintenance & Infrastructure arena



* Strong experience and proven track record in Release Management or Project/Program Management

* Exposure to Service Validation & Test processes, Testing and Design and Execution of test plans.

* Knowledge of ITIL V3 process framework methodology strongly desired. Capable of making commitments, setting priorities, and delivering results on time.

* Strong business process understanding & McKesson business processes, infrastructure background desired.

* Background in large/complex delivery of applications/ERP systems like SAP & Mid-range systems, and Infrastructure components highly preferred.
