Director, Pharmaceutical Counsel
Duties: Function as an integrated legal business partner who advises on a broad range of legal matters within the Hem Franchise in order to inform on risks and to help identify appropriate mitigation that enables the Franchise to succeed on business objectives in a complex and rapidly evolving commercial space and legal environment. Act as legal counsel for assigned business partners on broad range of legal matters within the Franchise. Counsel US & Global business teams. Understand and proactively provide legal analysis and advice related to new and existing Franchise strategies on variety of topics including marketing plans, sales strategy, contracting issues, incentive compensation topics, review of internal and external communications, competitive advertising challenges, meetings and conventions, legacy product management and support on consulting issues. Proactively manage legal issues via coordination with Legal Centers of Excellence, Legal management, Franchise management and other Novartis functions, as appropriate. Partner with commercial, regulatory, and medical colleagues to ensure timely review of all promotional materials. Contribute actively to promotional review team by evaluating potential risk and providing counsel. Coordinate with brand personnel and legal colleagues to ensure consistency and adherence to Franchise priorities and strategic imperatives. Provide legal counsel and risk management support and advice on complex commercial contracts, including, contracts with medical societies, research partners, advocacy organizations, consultants, spokespersons and vendors as well as on corporate transactions (e.g. licensing, co-promotions). Partner with Ethics, Risk and Compliance to proactively identify and manage potential compliance risk. Ensure compliance with all government regulations and mandates. Stay abreast of developments related to changing landscape of hematology markets and use insights to drive innovation and actively contribute to new strategies supporting business objectives. Exercise sound judgment, be decisive and make appropriate judgment calls during times of ambiguity. Function as an expert, skillfully navigating the morphing legal landscape in key areas of Legal expertise that have an impact on current and long-term profitability of the Franchise and company. Continually challenge the status quo by pursuing calculated, smart, risk-taking in an unpredictable environment with appropriate risk identification, mitigation and contingency planning. Actively contribute to Legal Function by sharing best practices and participating in initiatives focused on building departmental and function knowledge and capabilities. Partner with colleagues to contribute expertise as needed and collaborate in a manner that models the expected Values and Behaviors.
