We are looking for a Sr. Fitness Editor who will own all editorial aspects of
LIVESTRONG.com’s fitness vertical
and improve and build upon its vast inventory of high-quality content. This position is temp to hire. It requires strong editing and organizational skills as well as a thorough knowledge of SEO best practices and ability to communicate well with freelance writers. You will be in charge of both new content creation as well as existing content renovation to strengthen the vertical’s overall authority in the fitness space. You’ll work from our New York office.

You’ll report to: Managing Editor
A typical day as Sr. Fitness Editor might include:
Editing and publishing 3-5 stories daily
Brainstorming and pitching timely evergreen stories with a news peg
Brainstorming and pitching SEO stories within a defined keyword universe
Brainstorming and pitching creative evergreen, utilitarian, service-driven content
Assigning stories to both full-time staff and freelance writers, and ensuring stories are produced and published in a timely manner and to standard
Recruiting talented freelance writers and experts in the fitness space
Planning the weekly schedule for the fitness vertical and ensuring a balance between new and renovated content production
Working with the Audience Development Manager to develop and hone strategies for the vertical in order to achieve monthly traffic goals through other channels
Working with the Audience Development team to participate in and promote the
LIVESTRONG.com Challenge Group
on Facebook
Keeping a finger on the pulse of the fitness world in order to stay abreast of promising new trends
Attending fitness industry events and holding desksides
You’ll be successful in this role if you are passionate about creating high-quality service content that helps readers at all stages of their health and fitness journeys. The Fitness Editor is responsible for assigning and top-editing all stories within the fitness vertical. Well-versed in the fitness space, you know exactly what a reader is looking for when she Googles “best beginner weight training routine for middle-aged women” and how to present that information in an easy-to-read, authoritative way that gives the reader everything she needs to know to move forward. While this is primarily an editing role, you will be expected to write stories when needed, as well.
What you have:
5-8 years editorial experience
Superior SEO knowledge 
A large rolodex of freelance and expert writers who specialize in fitness coverage
A passion for everything fitness, from the latest trends to the need-to-know basics
Experience using Google Analytics or similar tools to extract actionable insights from data
Meticulous editing skills for grammar, voice, and flow
Strong writing and communication skills
Ability to prioritize and manage your time productively
Ability to think creatively about packaging, presentation and promotion of your fitness coverage
An interest in helping people from all backgrounds live their healthiest, happiest lives
